Lost Coast Trail Day Hike. Shelter Cove, CA

This was a day hike I have done in the Summer. I started at the Little Black Sands Beach and hiked all the way to Shipman Creek. Actually I hiked a little bit north of Shipman Creek so I can see the Big Flat from far and take pictures. That's over 16 Miles roundtrip. 8 Miles to Shipman Creek and 8 miles back to Little Black Sands Beach. You do not need a permit, if you are hiking out the same day. You need a permit and Bear Canisters, if you have to camp overnight. Please check with BLM on the permits. This hike is breathtakingly pretty, especially from Buck Creek to Shipman's Creek. But this can be gravely dangerous without planning as this section lays under the impassable Zone during high tide. Always stay away from the waves.

CAUTION The trail from Gitchell Creek to Shipman Creek will be impassable during High Tide. There are two high tides and two low tides everyday. The timing is different everyday. Please make sure you read the BLM tide safety information before attempting. Ocean can be very unforgiving. Lives lost here in the past. Stay safe
